First Sunday of Advent, Sunday, December 1, 2018 The Rev. Dr. Andrew MacBeth, Fr. Andy
A beautiful First Sunday of Advent at Holy Cross today. The Rev. Dr. Andrew MacBeth, Fr. Andy, delivered a thought-provoking sermon discussing “What’s God up to now?” He pointed out that today’s gospel text (Luke 21:25-36) where Jesus says there will be signs and on Earth distress among nations and great confusion is timeless and could even be describing world events today. It’s all about perspective. The signs are our hope and reassurance that God has not left us, God cares and is with us in all of our life’s circumstances. Advent is a season of change, letting go, and looking to a future that is not clear or known. Pay attention, stay alert, but do not be afraid for Jesus says I am with you, do not fear. So do not despair, even though the future at times seems uncertain, God’s got this! Wonder what God’s up to now...
